Open Enrollment – Short-Term Disability (STD) - Human Resources at Ohio State
November 1-14, 2019
Short-Term Disability (STD)
Special Enrollment Opportunity
Note: Open Enrollment is also the only opportunity to cancel short-term disability coverage.
Short-term disability (STD) coverage provides you with the opportunity to receive income replacement before you may become eligible for long-term disability benefits. Following approval of a disability claim and a 30 calendar-day waiting period, your weekly, non-taxable STD benefit is paid at 60% of your gross eligible base earnings, up to a maximum benefit of $1,154 per week, for up to 90 calendar days. After 90 days, you may be eligible for long-term disability benefits if you are unable to work due to an injury or disability.
You may enroll in STD coverage without evidence of insurability during this Open Enrollment. This means you do not need to provide information about your health for your enrollment to be approved if you apply during this special enrollment. Open Enrollment for STD benefits is not offered annually, but only during designated years.
If elected, your STD coverage will be effective January 1, 2020. Premiums are based on your annual salary.
