New Hires and Newly Benefits Eligible Between October 31 and December 31, 2020

Newly hired and newly benefits eligible employees have two enrollment opportunities: for 2020 benefits and 2021 benefits. You must first make your benefit elections for 2020 before making 2021 benefit elections.

You have 30 days from your eligible appointment date to elect applicable benefits.  Use Employee Self Service to make these elections online through December 4, 2020. After December 4, 2020, complete enrollment forms for 2020 benefits and return to HR Connection, 1590 N. High St., Columbus OH 43201.

Health Plans

  • Eligibility for dependents enrolled in your health plans (medical,dental and/or vision) will need to be verified. See dependent eligibility requirements for more information.

Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

  • Any 2020 FSA election applies only to expenses incurred from your date of eligibility through March 15, 2021, and the entire amount you elect as a newly eligible employee will be deducted from your remaining 2020 pay.

Short-Term Disability (STD)

  • No Evidence of Insurability (EOI) required

Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance (VGTLI)

  • Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance (VGTLI) is available for employee and spouse (up to guaranteed issue amounts and subject to age reduction) and can be elected during your newly eligible window without Evidence of Insurability (EOI).
  • VGTLI Child is available for children up to age 26 with no EOI required.

2020 Elections Before 2021
You must first make your benefit elections for 2020 before making 2021 benefit elections.

As a new hire or newly benefits eligible, you may make elections for 2021 benefits after your 2020 benefit elections have been submitted and processed. Please consider the following:

Medical, Dental and Vision

  • 2020 elections will roll over or you may make changes to these plans.
  • Any new dependents that you enroll in your health plan coverage will need to be verified. See dependent eligibility requirements for more information.

Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

  • 2020 elections do NOT roll over.  If you would like to participate in an FSA for 2021, you MUST enroll for 2021.

Short-Term Disability (STD)

  • 2020 election will roll over.
  • If not elected in 2020, EOI required.

Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance (VGTLI)

  • VGTLI Employee
    • 2020 election will roll over.
    • Any coverage election or coverage increase made for 2021 (after initial eligibility) is subject to EOI.
  • VGTLI Spouse
    • 2020 election will roll over.
    • Any coverage election or coverage increase made for 2021 (after initial eligibility) is subject to EOI.
