Life Insurance and Disability

Dependent Group Term Life Insurance

For low monthly fees, eligible faculty and staff may purchase Dependent Group Term Life Insurance (DGTLI) coverage for dependents, including a spouse and dependent children up to age 26. This benefit provides a death benefit of up to $10,000 (depending on level of coverage selected) in the event of the death of an eligible dependent. The employee is the beneficiary for any DGTLI benefit.

This benefit is available as part of the group term life insurance coverage provided to eligible employees.

During Open Enrollment, you may enroll in or increase current DGTLI coverage with no Evidence of Insurability (EOI) required. The only other time you may enroll in or increase coverage is with a qualifying status change.

Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance

Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance (VGTLI) provides an opportunity to purchase additional life insurance coverage.

Dependent Children
During Open Enrollment, you have an opportunity to enroll in or increase VGTLI coverage for eligible dependent children up to age 26 with no Evidence of Insurability (EOI) required. The only other time you may enroll in or increase coverage is with a qualifying status change. The maximum amount of coverage available for each eligible child is $10,000.

Employee and/or Spouse/Same-Sex Domestic Partner
Review all VGTLI coverage options for you and/or spouse/same-sex domestic partners (SSDP). Evidence of Insurability (EOI) is required for all coverage options. There is no opportunity during Open Enrollment to purchase VGTLI coverage for yourself or your spouse without EOI. SSDP life insurance coverage is only available to same-sex domestic partners who meet all plan eligibility requirements and were enrolled in coverage on December 31, 2017.

Short-Term Disability

Open Enrollment is the only opportunity to cancel existing short-term disability coverage effective January 1, 2018. There is no opportunity to elect short-term disability coverage during this Open Enrollment. However, you may apply for coverage at any time, with EOI.
