After a careful review, the university announced on June 21, 2023, that there will not be an academic recess for December 2023.
Ohio State previously scheduled one-time academic recesses in December 2021 and 2022. These recesses were determined on a year-by-year basis, giving special consideration to challenges throughout those academic years.
Faculty and staff wellness continues to be a priority. Ohio State encourages employees to plan time away from work as needed to rest and recharge. Managers and leaders are encouraged to approve appropriate time off based on operational needs and to ensure that staff using approved time off are not compelled to work while they are out. Paid Time Off Policy 6.27 provides information on eligibility for and use of vacation time.
For colleges and units with clinical programs, managers and leaders will need to balance staffing flexibility with fulfilling clinic and patient care obligations.
