Managers and HR consultants can now assign employees to another manager in Workday

A recent enhancement is now in effect for how employees’ reporting structure data can be updated in Workday. As of Friday, Aug. 12, managers, manager liaisons and HR consultants have access to initiate assigning an employee or vacant position to another manager in Workday.

If the new manager already has a supervisory organization associated with the correct staffing model, employees and vacant positions can now be moved to the new manager directly in Workday. Managers and manager liaisons can initiate this task for employees or positions actively reporting to them (not for positions that do not report to them).

Before the change is finalized, a member of the HR team will review and approve as a part of the Workday business process. Once approved, the new, manager, as well as applicable manager liaisons, will receive a Workday “To Do” task to review the change and take additional action, if needed.

Managers, manager liaisons and HR consultants no longer need to gather employee data and submit a request through HR Connection if the new manager has a supervisory organization associated with the correct staffing model. This enhancement helps streamline the process, eliminates the need for manual data collection and increases the communication managers will receive throughout the process.

To initiate moving an employee or position to another manager in Workday, search for “Move Workers” in the Workday search bar and select Move Workers (Supervisory).

If the new, proposed manager does not have the correct supervisory organization, a request should be submitted through hrconnection.osu.edu. Consult the job aid for steps on how to confirm if a manager has the correct supervisory organization.

More information is available in this Move Workers Job Aid.
