Ohio State recognized with Employer Partners of Inclusion Platinum Award

Ohio State has been recognized for our commitment to the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the workplace, and for being a leader of diversity and inclusion best practices in Ohio.

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) has awarded Ohio State with a 2020 Employer Partners of Inclusion Platinum Award, which honors employers who have hired at least five OOD job seekers in the one-year evaluation period and met specific criteria that demonstrates their level of diversity and inclusion practices.

“Creating a diverse and inclusive culture where every individual is valued and can contribute is the foundation for a productive, gratifying workplace,” Susan Basso, senior vice president for talent, culture and human resources, said. “We appreciate our partnership with OOD and are proud to be recognized for our commitment to providing a positive workplace culture for all employees.”

Ohio State has been honored for the fourth consecutive year for dedication to the OOD partnership and continuous hiring and support of OOD candidates. In addition, Ohio State’s partnership with OOD includes a full-time talent sourcing coordinator on the Human Resources talent team and facilitates the hiring of many OOD candidates across all campuses and the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.

Ohio State was also recognized in 2017, 2018 and 2019 for creating a culture which encourages the support and advancement of employees with disabilities.

What you need to know about fraudulent unemployment claims

In the past year, the number of fraudulent unemployment claims filed in the United States has dramatically increased. This is not an issue that is unique to the state of Ohio. However, Ohio State employees need to be aware of the threat and know how to access the resources available.

Deadline extended for spring semester dependent tuition assistance

The university is extending the deadline for eligible employees to apply for dependent tuition assistance for spring semester 2021 to 11:59 p.m. March 5, 2021. This one-time extension for the spring 2021 semester only is in response to potential challenges with completing enrollment due to the recent transition from PeopleSoft to Workday.

Weather-related resources and closing reminders

With winter upon us, it’s important to be aware of the university’s weather-related resources and policy, and know how to check the university’s status. Although Ohio State strives to remain open, faculty and staff can be prepared by reviewing this policy and taking note of the resources.

Ten revised HR policies in effect January 3, 2021

These Human Resources policies have been revised: Reduction in Force Classified Staff, Reduction in Force Unclassified Staff, Staff Severance, Staff Employment, Student Employment, Background Check, Military Leave/Reemployment Rights, Paid Time Off, Staff Recruitment and Selection, and Unpaid Leave.

Updated election process for Supplemental Retirement Accounts

Upcoming system upgrades and policy revisions will impact the timing of new and revised elections to Supplemental Retirement Accounts (SRA) as of January 4, 2021.

Enrollment deadline for Spring Dependent Tuition Assistance

Applications for dependent tuition assistance (DTA) must be submitted each term. The enrollment window for spring semester 2021 closes January 15. Eligible faculty and staff can go to Workday to apply online or with paper applications. The student must have a Social Security number on file with Buckeye Link to receive dependent tuition assistance.

The Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award recognizes individuals and groups for their commitment to enhancing diversity at Ohio State. Faculty, staff, students, student organizations and alumni can nominate their colleagues and peers who have made diversity part of university best practices. The nomination deadline is Friday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m.

The Distinguished Staff Award, the university's highest honor for staff, recognizes staff members who have made an impact at The Ohio State University. The annual award honors 12 outstanding staff members for their exceptional leadership, accomplishments, dedication and service to the university. The nomination deadline is February 12 at 5 p.m.

Rules for Classified Civil Service updated to align with HR policy revisions

Some of Ohio State’s Rules for Classified Civil Service (CCS) have been updated to align with the university’s implementation of Workday and recent HR policy revisions and will go into effect on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020.
