Ohio State faculty, staff and retirees joined together to raise $1,318,131 for central Ohio, making a difference for hundreds of local nonprofit organizations.
Bucks for Charity is the annual campaign for Ohio State employees to give back and support organizations that make a positive impact for our families, neighbors, colleagues, students and friends.

“It is amazing what we can do for our community when we join together,” said David B. Williams, dean of the Ohio State College of Engineering and 2018 Bucks for Charity Campaign chair “With another recording-breaking year, we surpassed our goal of raising $1.3 million, which will support hundreds of incredible local organizations that help people every day. It is inspiring to witness how Ohio State’s ‘Pay Forward’ culture is helping to move our community forward.”
There are nearly 250 central Ohio organizations participating in Bucks for Charity that support causes such as food security, health services, animal welfare, education, advocacy programs or the environment. Here are a few organizations that benefited from Ohio State employee donations this year:
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Alaskan Brown Bears, named Brutus and Buckeye
- The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium creates experiences that bond families, inspire students, advance conservation around the world and spark a lifelong appreciation for the animals we all love.
- United Way of Central Ohio supports a network of more than 80 local nonprofit partners that provide opportunities in four critical areas: basic needs, good jobs, strong neighborhoods and student success.
- Mid-Ohio Foodbank provides enough food for about 140,000 meals a day to help stabilize families, connect hungry neighbors with community services to help them toward economic sufficiency, and energize the community to address root causes of hunger so everyone thrives.
