2019 Open Enrollment Benefits Information

Open Enrollment is the annual opportunity for you to evaluate your benefit options and make your elections for the upcoming year. Open Enrollment for the 2019 benefit plan year will be available November 1-14, 2018.

While health care premiums around the country continue to increase, we are excited to share that, in 2019, all of the employee contribution rates for Ohio State’s faculty and staff medical plans will decrease! In addition, there will be no changes to deductibles, annual maximums or coinsurance/copayments for any health plan, including dental and vision.

Our ability to minimize cost increases this year is the outcome of collaborative efforts by the Office of Human Resources and OSU Health Plan diligently managing our plans and Ohio State faculty and staff making healthy lifestyle wellness choices. It is a rare accomplishment in today’s health care environment, and one that we are proud will benefit our faculty and staff.

We strongly encourage you to visit the Open Enrollment website to learn about your 2019 benefits and select the options that best fit your needs for the coming year. You can take a guided online tour of all available options or select a shorter overview of essential information.

The website includes details of all benefit options available during Open Enrollment and what will be new in 2019, such as:

  • The move to a quarterly incentive program by Your Plan for Health (YP4H)
  • A new option for fitness memberships through YP4H
  • A special enrollment opportunity for Short-Term Disability
  • Information about participating in Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts

New this year, we are reducing the size of printed and mailed material to leverage the improved Open Enrollment website. In addition to the website, Ohio State will provide the following resources in mid-October:

  • Decision tools: myBenefitsMentor, an informed enrollment resource that can assist you in making informed health care decisions. The online interactive tool will be available in Employee Self Service (under the eBenefits header), while the paper statement will be mailed to the home address for anyone enrolled in a medical plan prior to August 1, 2018.
  • Open Enrollment Overview: A printed overview of Open Enrollment updates sent to your home.
  • Presentations: Live webinars, in-person forums and recorded videos presented by benefits consultants.

Weather-related resources and closing reminders

With winter upon us, it’s important to be aware of the university’s weather-related resources and policy, and know how to check the university’s status. Although Ohio State strives to remain open, faculty and staff can be prepared by reviewing this policy and taking note of the resources.

Dependent tuition assistance enrollment window open for spring 2019 term

The dependent tuition assistance enrollment window for spring 2019 term is open November 12, 2018 through January 11, 2019. Applications for dependent tuition assistance must be submitted each term.

Reminder: Drug-Free Workplace Policy enhances safety

HR Leadership Announcement

Linette (Lin) Hillis will join Ohio State in the role of associate vice president for talent, diversity and leadership, Office of Human Resources. Lin’s first day will be on Monday, October 29, 2018.

Revised Paid Leave Programs Policy

To provide greater equity amongst Ohio State faculty and staff, the Paid Leave Programs policy has been revised on an interim basis, including changes to parental leave eligibility and vacation accrual for post-doctoral researchers and associated faculty.

Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Awards nominations open

The Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award recognizes individuals and groups for their commitment to enhancing diversity at Ohio State. Faculty, staff, students, student organizations and alumni can nominate their colleagues and peers who have made diversity part of university best practices.

The Distinguished Staff Award, the university’s highest honor for staff, recognizes staff members who have made an impact at The Ohio State University. The annual award honors 12 outstanding staff members for their exceptional leadership, accomplishments, dedication and service to the university.

Faculty and staff eligible for Ohio State benefits can review their 2019 Benefits Confirmation Statement in Employee Self Service today through November 30, 2018. Employees will also receive a copy...

Open Enrollment ends November 14

Open Enrollment ends Wednesday (11/14) at 11:59 p.m. This is your final opportunity to make changes to your benefit elections for 2019. Don’t forget to click “Authorize and Submit” to complete your enrollment. Review plan information on the Open Enrollment website.
