OPERS Retirement Seminars Planned for March

The Office of Human Resources will host retirement education seminars during the month of March for members of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).
“Education Today for Retirement Tomorrow” is for OPERS mid-career members who are eligible to retire after January 7, 2018 (Groups B and C). This seminar provides tips on preparing for retirement and reviews key decisions dates leading up to retirement. Seminars are held:

  • Thursday, March 3, 2016, 10-11 a.m. – Ross Heart Hospital Auditorium (H1213)
  • Thursday, March 17, 2016, 10-11 a.m. – Scott Laboratory E100

“Ready to Retire Pension and Health Care” is for OPERS members who are eligible to retire on or before January 7, 2018 (Group A). During this seminar, OPERS members will learn about important pension and health care changes that will impact their retirement. Participants will learn how to apply for retirement, calculate their monthly OPERS payment and determine if they are eligible for health care. We will also cover upcoming changes to the OPERS Health Care Plan and the impact to their retirement decisions. Seminars are held:

  • Thursday, March 3, 2016, 1-3 p.m. – Ross Heart Hospital Auditorium (H1213)
  • Thursday, March 17, 2016, 1-3 p.m. – Scott Laboratory E100

Speakers will include representatives from OPERS.

Revised Paid Leave Programs Policy

To provide greater equity amongst Ohio State faculty and staff, the Paid Leave Programs policy has been revised on an interim basis, including changes to parental leave eligibility and vacation accrual for post-doctoral researchers and associated faculty.

Revised Workplace Violence Policy

As part of Ohio State’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe campus for faculty, staff and students, the Workplace Violence Policy has been revised to better define workplace violence and what to do in the event that a violent situation arises.

Revised Reward and Recognition Policy

The Reward and Recognition policy has been revised to align the policy language with the Expenditures Policy, and to ensure that the language is consistent with tax law.

Faculty and staff eligible for Ohio State medical benefits will have access to a helpful resource during Open Enrollment: myBenefitsMentor. This tool models projected medical and pharmacy expenses based on anticipated health care needs for 2019.

HR Leadership Announcement

Linette (Lin) Hillis will join Ohio State in the role of associate vice president for talent, diversity and leadership, Office of Human Resources. Lin’s first day will be on Monday, October 29, 2018.
