The Ohio State University, including the Wexner Medical Center, provides job-protected Family and Medical Leave (FML) to eligible faculty and staff for up to 12 work weeks (480 hours) of leave during a 12-month period based on qualifying events. Examples of qualifying events for requesting Family and Medical Leave include a range of circumstances to include, but are not limited to, a personal health need, caring for an immediate family member, leaves related to child birth and/or adoption and qualifying events specific to military service.
On February 1, 2015, changes to the Family and Medical Leave policy will take effect. These changes include:
- Altering FML eligibility from 1,040 hours to 1,250 hours (50% FTE to approximately 60% FTE) worked in the 12 months preceding the commencement of leave.
- Adding student employees as covered employees. Students must work 1,250 hours or greater and have one year of service preceding the commencement of leave to meet the FML eligibility criteria.
- Modifying immediate family-member definitions to be consistent with federal guidelines, specific to Family and Medical Leave requirements.
Review the specific details of the FML policy changes.
