Monthly Minors Memo: Policy Approved and Set for January 1 Effective Date

The Ohio State University reaches nearly 500,000 youth annually through more than 600 activities and programs in all of Ohio’s 88 counties. Throughout the past year, the Office of Human Resources has worked to formulate and approve a renewed policy regarding youth participation in University activities and programs. Ohio State’s goal is clear: to promote the safety and welfare of minors who participate in our activities and programs.

The renewed Activities and Programs with Minor Participants policy has been approved and will take effect on January 1, 2015. To support the protection of minors, this policy outlines what is required of faculty, staff, appointees, students, student employees, graduate associates and volunteers who work in activities and programs with minors, and informs individuals of their reporting obligations in instances of known or suspected abuse or neglect of minors.

Some key aspects of the renewed policy include registration of activities and programs with minors, training and new requirements, including reporting obligations and background checks. Enrollment window for spring term dependent tuition assistance opens November 11

Dependent tuition assistance applications must be submitted each term. The enrollment window for spring semester 2020 opens November 11, 2019, and closes January 10, 2020. Faculty and staff can apply online or with a paper application. The student must have a social security number on file with Buckeye Link to receive dependent tuition assistance.

Forming the HR Shared Service Center

On Monday, September 9, HR colleagues participating in the HR Service Delivery (HRSD) pilot moved to the Office of Human Resources (OHR) location at South Campus Gateway, hitting a milestone in the development of the center, newly named HR Connection. Pilot partners celebrated their new office space with a welcome event.

On Monday, August 26, The HR community participated in an open house forum to connect with HR leadership in an open dialogue about Ohio State’s HR Transformation efforts.
