for leaders of employees new to Ohio State and internal transfers
Months 9-12: Integration
Over the past several months, the employee has been learning, contributing and building relationships. By now, they are not just navigating the organization, they are helping to shape it. Integration is about affirming their place on the team, gaining recognition for their contributions and demonstrating a strong commitment to Ohio State’s vision, mission and values.
As the employee approaches their first year and becomes a fully integrated, confident and committed member of the team, you can support them by:
- Recognizing Growth and Impact: Reflect with your employee on their journey so far, what they’ve achieved, how they’ve grown and the difference they’ve made.
- Setting Future Goals: Begin shaping the next chapter. Discuss development interests, growth opportunities and areas where they’d like to contribute more deeply.
- Inviting Strategic Contribution: Ask for their perspective. With nearly a year of experience, they can now offer valuable insights into what’s working and where improvements can be made.
- Encouraging Broader Engagement: Suggest ways to get involved beyond their immediate role, such as joining committees, participating in volunteer efforts or contributing to cross-functional initiatives. This fosters a sense of belonging and ownership.
- Celebrating Milestones: Acknowledge their one-year mark in a meaningful way. Whether formally or informally, make sure they feel seen, valued and excited about what’s ahead.
By recognizing their progress and inviting deeper engagement, you help ensure the employee’s continued growth, connection and long-term success at Ohio State.
