New Employee Onboarding

A guide for new employees

New Employee Orientation

Orientation welcomes new Buckeye staff members to the Ohio State community and introduces them to our history, structure, culture and opportunities.

To meet the unique needs of our employees, there are two orientation programs – one for campus employees and one for medical center employees.

Prior to starting, new employees will receive information about orientation via email.

New Employee Orientation Moves to On-Demand Format

Beginning in July, Ohio State will introduce a new self-paced, on-demand orientation experience for campus staff that includes replacing the current live, virtual orientation on day one. The new format will support a smoother start by offering consistent content delivery, greater flexibility for varying schedules and fewer first-day technology barriers. A three-module course New Buckeye Orientation: Becoming an Ohio State Employee will be automatically assigned in BuckeyeLearn on each new staff member’s first day.

An Employee Orientation Guide, as well as an Employee Orientation Companion Guide for hiring managers, is also available for new employees and internal transfers.

Benefits of the new orientation experience:

  • Assigned automatically to every new staff member joining Ohio State on their first day.
  • Builds stronger connections between new employees, their leaders and teams.
  • Ensures consistent messaging from the university.
  • Accommodates flexible schedules and nontraditional shifts.
  • Eases first-day technology access challenges.

What’s staying the same:

  • The common start date for new hires
  • The weekly benefits webinar

Note: This initiative does not apply to medical center employees, student employees, and faculty, all of whom follow separate orientation processes.
