Buckeye Onboarding

A guide for new employees and internal transfers

Months 9-12: Integration

Over the past several months, you have been learning, contributing and building relationships. By now, you’re not just navigating the organization, you’re helping to shape it. Integration is about affirming your place on the team, gaining recognition for your contributions and demonstrating a strong commitment to Ohio State’s vision, mission and values.

Here are a few ways to lean into this final phase of the onboarding journey:

  • Own Your Impact: Reflect on what you’ve accomplished and how you’ve added value. Continue to talk with your leader about how your role contributes to broader goals and where you want to grow next.
  • Seek and Offer Recognition: Acknowledge those who’ve supported your journey and look for opportunities to do the same for others. This reinforces a culture of appreciation and mutual respect.
  • Strengthen Your Voice: Share your ideas, insights and experiences with confidence. You’ve built credibility, now use it to influence conversations and contribute to decisions.
  • Stay Curious and Invested: Integration doesn’t mean coasting. Continue to learn about your craft, your colleagues and the wider organization. Curiosity signals engagement and a long-term mindset.
  • Give Back to the Culture: Consider how you can contribute beyond your immediate role – such as joining committees, participating in volunteer efforts or contributing to cross-functional initiatives.

You’re no longer just a new team member – you’re a trusted and respected contributor. Keep showing up with purpose and your presence will continue to make a lasting difference.
