Buckeye Onboarding
A guide for new employees and internal transfers
Months 3-6: Speed to Performance
You’re moving from learning to contributing and have built a solid foundation of knowledge, relationships and context. Use months three through six to put that knowledge into action by taking ownership of your work, delivering results and growing your confidence and credibility.
Here are a few ways to stay focused and build momentum:
- Deliver on Priorities: You’re now in a position to validate what you’ve learned and act with greater clarity. Focus on the priorities that align with your role and team goals. This is when your contributions can start to make a visible impact.
- Demonstrate Initiative: As you continue to grow in your role, look for small, manageable ways to contribute beyond your core responsibilities. This might include offering a fresh perspective, volunteering to support a team effort or suggesting improvements based on what you’re learning. Taking initiative, even in small ways, shows that you are engaged, curious and eager to grow at the right pace for where you are in the onboarding journey.
- Stay Curious: You’re still learning, and that’s a good thing. Keep asking questions, exploring how different parts of the organization connect and deepening your understanding of internal systems and processes.
- Engage in Performance Conversations: Regular check-ins with your leader are important. Use them to discuss your progress, clarify expectations and continue to ask for feedback on how you’re doing and where to focus next.
- Reflect and Adjust: Take time to reflect on what’s working well and where you might need support or a new approach. Self-reflection helps you refine your work habits and better align with team expectations and culture.
These months are about growing into your role with intention. You’re building trust, delivering results and laying the groundwork for long-term success.
