Applicants are encouraged to attach an up-to-date, error-free resume with all applications and to make sure they are tailored to each posting. If you are an alum of Ohio State, Alumni Affairs offers career counselling services.
The majority of applications that are inactivated immediately after submission are a result of the applicant applying and using the wrong application type, including:
- Ohio State students who apply as external applicants when they should have applied as an internal applicant.
- External applicants who accidentally answer the questionnaire incorrectly that they are enrolled. The system will be looking for internal applications and will inactivate their external application.
- Internal applicants (current Ohio State faculty, staff and student employees) who applied using the external application when they should have used the internal application.
Applicants should double check their application status to ensure these errors have not been made prior to submitting the application. Otherwise, the solution is to start over and reapply to the posting a second time with the correct application type. Automatic system disqualifications are for very few positions.
If your application is listed as “under review” that means that the recruiter is currently reviewing applications, including yours. This is the first phase of the recruitment process. If you are chosen to move along to the next phase, you will be contacted for an interview. Otherwise you will be notified by the status change in Workday that you are no longer being considered for the job. You can view your status in workday at any time.
Each job posting has a unique timeline for reviewing applications. Most positions are posted for a minimum of 7 days, but some postings are posted for 3-4 weeks. This is to capture a broader applicant pool. When a job is posted for a longer period of time, there is often a large volume of applications to review. Recruiters work diligently to keep candidates informed as much as possible through the process. You can follow the recruitment process by checking your application status online via the Ohio State jobs website.
If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by a talent acquisition professional. You will also be able to view the status of your applications by viewing the “Submitted Applications” section in the candidate home.
Offer Letter
Congratulations on your new position! Once you have been sent an offer letter, you should see an alert [!] next to the application in your Candidate Home. Once you sign the offer letter you will be asked to enter your government id (social security number) and date of birth. Completing these steps are critical to your hiring process.
Student Applicants
Your application was likely rejected because the Workday system recognized you as a current Ohio State student, and you will need to apply as an internal applicant, not an external.
