This 150-minute webinar will provide faculty and staff with the information needed to make informed choices regarding Retirement and Health and Welfare options as a new hire. This session will provide a combination of Retirement. Health and Welfare Benefits, Tuition Assistance and Additional benefits information. The first 60-minutes focused on Retirement Plan choices, the second 60-minutes focused on Health and Welfare Plan choices and the final section will review Tuition Assistance and additional benefits.
Part 1: Health and Welfare (60 minutes)
You have 30 days including the effective date of your eligible appointment to enroll in health benefits. During the 30-day enrollment period, you may elect coverage in one of the several medical plans available, dental and vision coverage, dependent and health care flexible spending accounts, short-term disability, and voluntary group term life insurance coverage.
During these sessions, Benefits Analysts will compare key features of the medical plans and other health benefits and will address issues you need to consider when making your decision. A Workday benefit enrollment demonstration will also be included in the presentation.
Part 2: Retirement (60 minutes)
You have 120 days including the effective date of your eligible appointment to choose a retirement program. During the 120-day enrollment period, you may elect to participate in the Ohio Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) or the State System, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) for staff, and State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) for faculty.
Human Resources, Benefits Administration offers retirement choices forums to provide a high-level summary of the plans available to new faculty and staff. During these sessions, Benefit Analysts will compare key features of the ARP, and OPERS/STRS, and will address issues you need to consider when making your decision.
Part 3: Tuition Assistance and Additional Benefits (30 minutes)
The final section of the presentation will provide you with information that you need to understand the Faculty and Staff Tuition Assistance benefits as well as the Dependent Tuition Assistance benefit. Benefit Analysts will also review additional benefits that Ohio State offers including, the Lifestyle Spending Account, Employee Assistance Program, and more.

In addition, self-directed brokerage accounts (Tier 3) are available, offering extensive investment opportunities with added flexibility and risk. If you contributed to an Ohio State ARP, 403(b), 457(b) or executive retirement plan prior to January 1, 2021, you may have a legacy account(s). This means it may be held with a terminated provider or in legacy investments with an approved provider. Transferring your legacy investments to the current investment lineup may provide you with lower record-keeping and investment managing fees, as well as a simplified approach to choosing your investments. In this session, Ohio State benefits professionals will walk through considerations for moving your legacy investments, steps to do so and how to take advantage of retirement enhancements to the plans.

Social Security Administration representatives will provide information about Social Security and Medicare. This session covers enrolling in Medicare Parts A and B via Social Security. It will cover a comprehensive overview of Part A/B enrollment periods, regulations for beneficiaries with higher incomes, and the Medicare Prescription Extra Help program for those with lower incomes.

The Leadership Series is a year-round leader development program for organizational leaders at Ohio State. Organizational leaders are those who lead other people leaders, departments, or groups of departments. Monthly virtual sessions will be offered from July-April via Zoom. Quarterly in-person sessions will be offered in September, January, and May.
Each monthly virtual session will introduce leadership and organizational concepts that can be applied at an individual and team level. Participants will engage in discussion and have an opportunity to build and strengthen relationships with fellow leaders.
Each quarterly in-person session will focus on reflection, sensemaking, and application of concepts within a community of leaders. Participants are invited to bring their own lunch.

The Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) reimburses eligible employees up to $125 quarterly for an eligible service or expense. Employees have until October 15, 2024 to submit a claim for eligible expenses incurred from July 1 – September 30, 2024 to HealthEquity. All requests for reimbursement must be received by HealthEquity no later than October 15, 2024. Unused funds do not roll over to the following quarter.
