You have 120 days from the effective date of your eligible appointment to choose a retirement program. During the 120 day enrollment period, you may elect to participate in the Ohio Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) or the State System. Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) for staff and State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) for faculty.

The Office of Human Resources offers retirement choices forums to provide a high-level summary of the plans available to new faculty and staff. During these sessions, Benefit Analysts will compare key features of the ARP, and OPERS/STRS, and will address issues you need to consider when making your decision.

Part 2: Health and Welfare 

You have 30 days from the effective date of your eligible appointment to enroll in health benefits. During the 30 day enrollment period, you may elect coverage in one of the several medical plans available, dental and vision coverage, dependent and health care flexible spending accounts, short-term disability, and voluntary group term life insurance coverage.

This panel discussion brings together managers who have successfully led hybrid teams over the years to share their experiences on building a high-performing team.

Hybrid teams are comprised of a mix of employees where some are in the same work location as their manager and/or teammates while others work at a different location on/off campus. This is not a new practice for the university, and it continues to evolve to meet the needs and expectations of current and future employees. This panel discussion brings together managers who have successfully led hybrid teams over the years to share their experiences on building a high-performing team; communication best practices; maintaining an engaged, inclusive, and trusting team culture; and limiting ingroup/outgroup occurrences.

Paper and Bytes: Policies, Best Practices, and Resources for Managing Ohio State Records
Become more knowledgeable about university policies, legal requirements, and best practices concerning the retention, management and disposition of records in their care.

The Ohio State University, as a public institution, must comply with laws governing public records. Effective compliance can only be achieved through proper records management. This 2-hour instructor-led workshop will help participants become more knowledgeable about policies, legal requirements and best practices concerning the retention, management and disposition of records in their care. Participants will also learn practical tips and techniques for managing email and organizing electronic records.

Paper and Bytes is provided in partnership by University Libraries and the Office of Human Resources.
