Student Employee Health Coverage

Undergraduate students are only eligible to participate in Ohio State’s Student Health Insurance unless they are eligible for the Faculty and Staff Health Plan through the Affordable Care Act, previous full-time employment with Ohio State or other current benefits-eligible employment with Ohio State.

Graduate Associates (GA) are eligible to participate in Ohio State’s Student Health Insurance and the Faculty and Staff Health Plan. Graduate associates have 30 days from their start date if they wish to elect the Faculty and Staff Health Plan. As a GA, you have several options for health coverage.

Student Health Insurance

International students are required to be enrolled in student health insurance. Ask the Student Health Insurance office about possible exceptions to student health insurance. Exceptions include:

• The Ohio State University Faculty and Staff Health Plan
• A source outside of the university

If you decide to enroll in The Ohio State University Faculty and Staff Health Plan, submit a Health Plan Election Form within 30 days of your start date and work with Student Health to waive Student Health Insurance coverage. Dental and vision coverage is not offered.
