Webinars
The Office of Human Resources offers webinars on health and wellness benefits and retirement options for new and newly eligible employees. Benefits consultants will compare key features of the plans and address issues you need to consider when making your decisions.
Welcoming a new addition to your family is an exciting milestone, and Ohio State benefit professionals are here to help you navigate the logistics so you can focus on family needs. Join the HR Benefits and Buckeye Baby team for a supportive, one-hour session designed to simplify the birth and adoption process at the university.
What you’ll learn:
- Time off and leave: A clear guide to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), parental leave and using your sick, vacation or short-term disability paid time off.
- Benefits and enrollment: How to navigate life event changes, enroll for the benefit in Workday and understand the Dependent Eligibility Verification process.
- Additional programs: Details on the Buckeye Baby program, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), surrogacy and adoption assistance and family care resources.
- Return from leave: Step-by-step instructions for requesting a return from leave in Workday.
- Live Q&A: Get your specific questions answered by experts to help you plan with confidence.
As a new faculty or staff member, you have important benefits decisions to make. This 150-minute session is designed to give you the clear, practical information you need to confidently choose the best Health and Welfare and Retirement options for you.
Part 1: Health and Welfare Benefits (60 minutes)
Important Deadline Reminder: You have 30 days from your hire date to enroll in health benefits.
What You’ll Learn: Benefits Analysts will clearly compare the key features of all available options, including:
- Medical, Dental and Vision plans
- Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for healthcare and dependent care
- Short-Term Disability and Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance
This session will also discuss the factors you should consider when making your election and provide a live Workday enrollment demonstration so you’re ready to complete the process.
Part 2: Retirement Benefits (60 minutes)
Important Deadline Reminder: You have 120 days from your hire date to choose one of Ohio State’s mandatory retirement programs.
What You’ll Learn:
- Overview of mandatory retirement program options
- For staff: Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS)
- For faculty: State Teachers Retirement System (STRS)
- Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP)
- Comparison of key plan features
- Essential considerations
This session will also look at additional retirement benefits, learning opportunities and resources available to help guide you in making the right decision for you.
Part 3: Additional Benefits (30 minutes)
What You’ll Learn: Benefits Analysts will feature additional benefit plans, including:
- Faculty and Staff Tuition Assistance and Dependent Tuition Assistance
- Lifestyle Spending Account
- Family Care and Family Building Benefits
