Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week

Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week is an annual celebration of Ohio State faculty and staff members to recognize their contributions to the university. The 2023 Staff Appreciation Week will be  July 31 – August 6. Several in-person and virtual activities will be planned for faculty and staff to thank them for their dedication to advancing the university’s mission. More information will be posted on this webpage soon.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the activities listed below, which include virtual experiences, virtual and in-person tours of university landmarks like Ohio Stadium, special promotions, discounts and ticket offers for local sporting events, and other special offerings for Ohio State staff.Regional Campuses:

Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens (in-person tour)

Get to know your closest public garden and arboretum! This tour will highlight the Lane Ave. Gardens including the Labyrinth, hosta collection, and conifer collection. Register for the Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens tour. Available for the first 50 registrants.

Frank W. Hale Black Cultural Center

One of the largest Black art collections in the United States and recognized by the Association of Black Culture Centers as one of the top five in the country, the Hale Center’s artwork illustrates the Black experience through nationally-recognized artists. The art exposes visitors to a variety of Black art, and many of the artists, such as Smokey Brown and Ralph Bell, are from the Columbus area. Traditional artifacts from various tribal groups within Africa, South Africa, and the Caribbean are also represented. Visit the Hale Center’s Art Collection website.

Historic Costume & Textiles Collection

The Historic Costume & Textiles Collection is a scholarly and artistic resource of apparel and textile material culture. The 11,500+ holdings encompass a range of three-dimensional objects such as textiles and articles of clothing and accessories for men, women, and children, including national dress costume, from the mid-18th century to contemporary 21st century designers. Faculty and Staff may enjoy the following virtual experiences:

Orton Geological Museum (in-person, guided tours)

To register for a tour of the Orton Geological Museum’s exhibit hall, by emailing hr-eventsrsvp@osu.edu and specifying date, time and provide a contact phone number. RSVPs are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. While the Museum displays beautiful minerals and fossils from all over the world, the guided tour concentrates on the geologic history of Ohio. The story begins 450 million years ago with Ohio south of the equator and under a tropical sea filled with trilobites, corals, and fish. It continues through the swamps that gave us coal, to the ice age with its giant sloths and beavers. At each stop real fossils are passed around, including trilobites, corals, a dinosaur bone, and mammoth and mastodon teeth.

Urban Arts Space and Hopkins Hall Gallery

Urban Arts Space is a downtown gallery and reciprocal learning space for students, faculty, and staff of The Ohio State University, as well as the Columbus community at large. Through an extensive and diverse slate of exhibitions, educational programs, outreach, and events, Urban Arts Space deepens learning, challenges perceptions, and increases access to the arts. Urban Arts Space also provides direction for Hopkins Hall Gallery, a satellite gallery on Ohio State’s main campus. All events and exhibitions are always free and open to the public.

The 2022 Ohio State Fair (July 27 – August 7)

In honor of staff appreciation week, we’ve partnered with the Ohio State Fair to provide discounted tickets for the Fair!

Starting July 22, at 8 a.m., Ohio State staff members can purchase $6 admission tickets. This 40% savings is available through July 29 at 10 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit the Ohio State Fair Ticketmaster page and enter the password “BUTTERS” to receive the discounted price. Each staff member can purchase up to eight tickets.
