Orton Geological Museum Tour
155 S. Oval Mall (Parking at Ohio Union Garage)
To register for a tour of the Orton Geological Museum’s exhibit hall, by emailing hr-eventsrsvp@osu.edu and specifying date, time and provide a contact phone number. RSVPs are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. While the museum displays beautiful minerals and fossils from all over the world, the guided tour concentrates on the geologic history of Ohio. The story begins 450 million years ago with Ohio south of the equator and under a tropical sea filled with trilobites, corals, and fish. It continues through the swamps that gave us coal, to the ice age with its giant sloths and beavers. At each stop real fossils are passed around, including trilobites, corals, a dinosaur bone, and mammoth and mastodon teeth.
Tour time is approximately 45 minutes.
Dale Gnidovec will be your guide and if the weather is nice, he will meet you on the front steps of Orton Hall. If the weather isn’t nice, please enter the building and wait for him next to the dinosaur.
