Child Care Workshop: Easy, Healthy Snacks for Kids

Jenny Anderson, R.D., L.D., OSU Health Plan Dietician. Wondering how to provide more nutritious snacks that your children will eat? Come to this demonstration by a registered dietician and find out how fixing healthy, appealing snacks can fit into your busy schedule.

Child Care Workshop: Motor Development in Young Children

Dr. Jackie Goodway, School of Physical Activity and Educational Services. Motor skills don't just develop naturally in children. Find out how to increase your child's interest in sports and exercise throughout life by supporting the movement ABC's during early childhood.

Culture Shaping and Life Effectiveness (2-day commitment)

At Ohio State, President Gee is committed to Creating "One University", with an emphasis on a high-performance culture. In this two-day interactive retreat, participants will actively engage in exercises, reflection, and dialogue to learn how they can play a role in building the desired culture, as well as strategies for increasing their individual effectiveness. It is designed for any faculty or staff member who is not scheduled to attend a retreat with their department or unit. Registration requires a commitment to attend both consecutive days of the retreat. Coffee is provided in the morning, lunch is "on your own."

HR Meet and Greet Brownbag Sessions with HR Senior Leaders

An opportunity for HR staff to meet the senior HR leaders and find out what is going on in their areas of responsibility. Feel free to bring your lunch, and come prepared with your questions, and feedback for the leadership team.

Health & Wellness Benefit Choices Forum

You have 31 days from the effective date of your eligible appointment to enroll in health benefits. During the 31-day enrollment period, you may elect coverage in one of the several medical plans available, dental and vision coverage, dependent and health care flexible spending accounts, short-term disability, dependent group term life insurance, and voluntary group term life insurance coverage. This session will not include information on retirement choices.

The Office of Human Resources offers health benefits forums to help you make these choices. During these sessions Benefits Consultants will compare key features of the medical plans and other health benefits, and will address issues you need to consider when making your decision.

Leader Series: Building Resilient Relationships Through Dialogue

Leaders are often faced with managing difficult conversations in the workplace. These conversations may relate to gaining buy-in to organizational vision, adapting to change, resolving disagreements, enhancing performance or a variety of other specific issues. The common thread is the importance of developing the relationship through on-going interactions which motivate others, invite them to be a part of a common effort and encourage engagement and a feeling of belonging.

This workshop teaches important interactive skills and a leadership mind-set that can be readily applied to a wide variety of workplace settings. Participants will be encouraged to discuss 'difficult situations' faced in the workplace with the goal of increasing interactive skills and options. Issues that will be addressed include:
- Organizational bonding skills for leaders
- Learning to address problems and provide support
- Leading from a vision
- Flexibility and confidence in yourself as a leader
- Defusing tense situations through interactive skill

Paper and Bytes: Managing OSU Records

Paper and Bytes: Policies, Best Practices, and Resources for Managing OSU Records
The Ohio State University, as a public institution, must comply with laws governing public records. Effective compliance can only be achieved in an environment of proper records retention and management. Participants in this workshop will become more knowledgeable about University policies, legal requirements, and best practices concerning the retention, management and disposition of records in their care. Those attending will leave with the answers to questions such as:
"Is this a record?"
"How long should I keep it?"
"Does Archives want it?"
"How do I destroy it"? and
"Where can I find more information?"

Retirement Choices Forum

You have 120 days from the effective date of your eligible appointment to choose a retirement program. During the 120-day enrollment period, you may elect to participate in the Ohio Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP), Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) for staff, or State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS) for faculty.
The Office of Human Resources offers retirement planning forums to help you make this decision. During these sessions Benefits Consultants will compare key features of the ARP and OPERS/STRS, and will address issues you need to consider when making your decision.

STRS- Preparing to Retire

Are you a faculty member who is ready to retire but have questions on the process? Representatives from State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) and the Office of Human Resources will be presenting on the retirement process and steps you need to take in order to apply for your retirement. This is a general session for all faculty. Specific retirement questions can only be answered by STRS if you call them directly to request a retirement estimation.

The purpose of the focus group is to learn from staff about their satisfaction as university employees. The information will be compiled and the resulting recommendations will be presented to President Gee and other leaders. All information shared will be anonymous.
