University Staff Advisory Committee Updates

USAC Membership Information

USAC is composed of 30 staff members from classified civil service, administrative and professional, and senior administrative and professional sectors. Committee members are appointed through a competitive application process and have expertise in areas such as finance, governance, marketing, and human resources. USAC members serve three-year terms. Each year, 10 new members are selected to join USAC as 10 existing members rotate off the committee.

Staff members interested in applying for membership in USAC for the 2012-2015 term may submit applications until February 3, 2012. The application and directions are online at usac.osu.edu/membership.

Hidden Benefits Fair

USAC, along with many partners, hosts one of the largest, most popular staff events held on campus, the Hidden Benefits Fair (HBF). The HBF showcases a huge array of benefits and services available for all faculty and staff. The 2012 event will be held April 12 at the Ohio Union’s Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom. There are door prizes and free items from vendors, and information is available regarding how to take advantage of these additional benefits of working at Ohio State. Admission is free. See usac.osu.edu/hiddenbenefits.

Staff Conversation with the President

For many years, USAC has hosted a series of conversations with President Gee, where staff members can ask questions or make comments directly to him. These events are focused around information that is topical and timely for the university community. A spring event is now being planned. For the date, time, and venue, please check usac.osu.edu/staffconversation.

USAC Focus Groups — New for 2012

In 2011, an electronic survey was distributed to a number of staff via e-mail in an effort to benchmark various areas of opportunity that staff face. In 2012, USAC, through the work of its Staff Compensation and Benefits Subcommittee (SCBS), will facilitate focus groups with randomly selected staff members to delve more deeply into issues that were revealed in the 2011 survey. The results of these focus groups will be shared with President Gee and other university administrators. The results also will focus the efforts of USAC during the coming years as we strive to advocate and communicate on behalf of all staff of the university.
