2009 Bucks for Charity Drive
October 5–December 11
Columbus campus faculty, staff, retirees, and students will have the opportunity to support central Ohio environmental, health, human and social service agencies through the Bucks for Charity Drive. Coordinators in each college, department or unit will contact colleagues to request their participation in this important fund-raising effort. Donor pledge cards and information about participating federations and their respective member agencies will be provided. Individuals may support preferred charities through one-time contributions (cash or check) or through payroll deduction pledges. All contributions are tax-deductible.
Awards, Grants and Recognition Programs
65th Annual Faculty and Staff Retirement Dinner
October 8, 6–9 p.m.
Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Road
Faculty and staff that have retired from Ohio State between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009, with 20 or more years of service credit with the university will be honored at a reception and dinner. Attendance is by invitation only.
2010 Staff Career Development Grants
Application Deadline: Monday, October 26
Staff Career Development Grants of up to $500 each are awarded annually to offset education and training costs needed to further staff career goals and professional development. The grant can be used toward expenses such as registration fees, tuition fees, textbooks, research supplies, and transportation costs. To be eligible, you must be regular staff with at least two years of continuous employment with Ohio State by January 1, 2010.
Applications are evaluated on the merits of the proposed use of funds, percentage of costs shared by other sources, and the potential benefits for you, your department, and the university. Grant recipients will be announced the week of December 3. The funds must be used for the approved professional development expenses that occur between January and December of 2010. Applications are available from college/departmental Human Resource offices and online at hr.osu.edu/special/specgrants. Staff Career Development Grants are funded through contributions to the Campus Campaign’s Staff Career Development Fund and administered by the Office of Human Resources.
Faculty and Staff Service Recognition Brunch
December 1, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
The Blackwell Inn, 2110 Tuttle Park Place
Faculty and staff who celebrate 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 or 50 years of employment with Ohio State during calendar year 2009 will be honored. Invitations will be sent out during the last week of October to all eligible faculty and staff. Any questions regarding years of service with Ohio State should be directed to your college/unit human resources manager. (This is an invitation-only event.)
Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Awards Program
Nomination deadline: January 11, 2010
The University Senate Committee on Diversity, in cooperation with the Office of Human Resources, will accept nominations for the 2010 Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Awards through January 11, 2010. This annual awards program is designed to recognize faculty, staff, students, alumni, academic and academic-support teams and units, and campus organizations that have demonstrated a significant commitment to enhancing diversity at Ohio State and in the community we serve. Recognized accomplishments must be activities above and beyond the nominee’s regular role and responsibilities. Up to five Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Awards will be presented at a ceremony in May, 2010. Each award recipient will receive a $1,200 cash award and a plaque.
Distinguished Staff Awards Program
Nomination deadline: January 15, 2010
The Office of Human Resources will accept nominations for the 2010 Distinguished Staff Awards through January 15, 2010. Current staff members with at least five years of continuous service to the university may be nominated for these awards. Nominations must include the following:
- A completed nomination form
- A nominating statement which describes the accomplishments of the nominee
- 3 letters of recommendation
Twelve staff members will be honored for outstanding leadership and accomplishments in service to the university community, faculty, staff, students, and/or other customers at an awards luncheon ceremony in June 2010. Each award recipient will receive a trophy, a $1,500 cash award, and a $700 base salary increase.
