Ohio State Celebrates National Work and Family Month in October

Image of a mother and daughterIn celebration of National Work and Family Month in October, Ohio State and the Office of Human Resources are bringing faculty and staff a variety of workshops designed to improve and integrate work and life. Annual Women’s Reception: Do Babies Matter in Academia?

The career aspirations and trajectories of men and women PhDs diverge strongly in academic institutions, with men overrepresented in the professoriate and women overrepresented in non-tenure-track teaching, administrative, and support positions. This session links those differing trajectories to family constraints and suggests ways that institutions of higher learning can provide satisfying work opportunities for everyone.

Care Navigation: Caring for Our Elders at Home

Only about 15 percent of those 85+ ever live in a care facility such as a nursing home or assisted living. That means a significant majority of those older adults living in their communities depend on family, friends, and neighbors for supportive assistance. This session will help caregivers gain insight into the helpful community-based services.

Bullying

Bullying with intent to harm can be physical or emotional and can occur in person, electronically, or indirectly, and is usually repetitive. Learn if and when your child is being bullied and techniques to help them.
