What should I do if I’m retiring?
You should start by contacting your retirement program: OPERS, STRS, or your ARP vendor. They will help you start the retirement process, set a retirement date, and determine the amount of your retirement benefits.
Who do I need to notify at work?
As soon as you have set a date, please notify your department human resource professional (HRP). There is no need to notify the Office of Human Resources.
When will I get my vacation and sick payout?
You will work with your department HRP regarding the timeline for formal payout.
Can I deposit some of my vacation and sick payout into a pre-tax retirement account?
Contact your agent. Arrangements should begin at least 30 days before your last check.
What do I do about medical insurance after I retire?
If you’re retiring through OPERS or STRS, contact them directly to learn more about your post retirement medical insurance options. ARP does not offer medical insurance options.
Note: In accordance with federal guidelines, all employees who terminate from university health insurance plans will receive a COBRA letter offering to continue coverage. Most employees who are retiring and electing medical coverage through OPERS or STRS choose not to elect COBRA.
