USAC Communications

USAC logoThe University Staff Advisory Committee (USAC), an advisory body to the university president, is now accepting membership applications for the 2008-2011 term. USAC's mission is to maintain an active and participatory line of communication with the university community and provide a forum through which staff can raise, discuss, and make recommendations on nonacademic issues and activities. Members are appointed by the university's president to three-year terms. Applications are due Friday, February 15.

Requirements for selection are:

  • Must have at least 75% FTE appointment in a non-bargaining unit as either civil service (CCS), unclassified administrative and professional (UAP), or senior administrative and professional (SAP). Must have direct supervisor approval.
  • Must be willing to make the time commitment, which at a minimum means attending two meetings a month (every other Wednesday morning).
  • Must be a contributing member of at least one subcommittee.
  • Must participate in USAC sponsored major events such as the Art Exhibit, Rally for Wellness, Town Meetings, and Hidden Benefits Fair.

This is a tremendous opportunity for staff to meet other staff members from many areas of the university, network with staff and administration, and have a voice at the university level. To complete an application, visit the USAC web site at usac.osu.edu, and complete the online application. For more questions about USAC, send inquiries to usac@osu.edu or contact Bill Koshar, koshar.3@osu.edu, (330) 263-3705, or fax (330) 263-3688.

Here are some quotes from USAC’s latest group of recruits:

“My first year with USAC has been a great learning experience. I have learned more about the inner workings of the university in the short time I have served on USAC than I could have imagined. It has been awesome!”

“It’s a good feeling to be part of a group with such impact.”

“I have never worked with a better group of individuals. Their unwavering support, concern, and dedication to the issues that affect this university and its staff are evident in every meeting and event.”

“Being a USAC member is a lot of work and responsibility, but the satisfaction and pride you feel from knowing that you can actually make a difference in both the work life aspect of each and every staff member is worth every minute!”

USAC HOLDS 13th ANNUAL HIDDEN BENEFITS FAIR

USAC held their Annual Hidden Benefits Fair on December 5 at the French Field House. The event showcased many services available to university staff. There were door prizes, plenty of free items and a wealth of information offered to those who attended. Approximately 75 vendors were on hand sharing information, goods for sale and discounted food items. During the fair, the OSU Faculty and Staff Wellness Program provided free flu shots for staff. USAC also participated in a community service activity by combining with the Toys for Tots Program, which is sponsored by the Columbus Fire Fighters and Channel 4. USAC advertised this worthwhile community effort to collect unwrapped new toys and donations not only at the fair, but at committee member’s campus locations. Visit the USAC web site at usac.osu.edu to see highlights from this year’s Hidden Benefits Fair!
