Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy Established
Ohio State has established the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy (#6.17) for unexpected catastrophic events resulting in a prolonged university closure. The policy requires that faculty and staff be designated as essential, alternate or standby; outlines how compensation, leave time, and other employment issues will work during an extended closure; and identifies individual, leadership, and unit responsibilities. The policy will become active if a University State of Emergency is declared. Faculty and staff are encouraged to become familiar with the policy and their department plans in case an emergency occurs. The policy and a list of Frequently Asked Questions can be found at hr.osu.edu/policy.
Note: The Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy is not used for one-day closings such as emergency snow days. There is a separate policy (#6.15 – Emergency Closing) that covers such short-term closings.
