Got An Issue? Try Mediation

Faculty and staff involved in a workplace dispute can turn to a third-party mediator for assistance. Participation in mediation is voluntary and confidential. It can be requested by the parties themselves, or by a colleague, supervisor, or direct report.

Mediation sessions take place in the south campus Gateway Building or at any regional campus or OSU extension office. Depending on the issues, they can last two to four hours. The mediation process is started by contacting the mediation coordinator, Eunice Hornsby, at (614) 688-8643 or mediation@hr.osu.edu.

The coordinator will assign a mediator to each case, and faculty and staff have the option to decline the mediator and request a different one before mediation begins. All mediators are full-time professionals who are not affiliated with the university.

Mediation is not available for disputes related to promotion and tenure, discrimination, sexual harassment, serious misconduct or criminal activity, discharge, or issues governed by federal or state law.
