What do I do when I will be on medical leave for more than 30 days?
-
Verify if you have elected Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage. STD is an employee-paid benefit that offers income replacement beginning after a 30-day waiting period when you are unable to work due to a non-work related injury or illness. The STD benefit may decrease the usage of your sick leave or vacation time.
- Employees who will be on medical leave for 90-days or more may qualify for Long-Term Disability (LTD) benefits. LTD is a university-paid benefit that provides income replacement after a 90-day waiting period when unable to work due to a non-work related injury or illness. Before you are eligible to receive LTD benefits you must exhaust your remaining sick leave balance.
- If you are unsure if you have STD coverage or would like to discuss your options prior to going out on medical leave, contact Integrated Disability.
- Employees should ensure their department has all the necessary documentation to support their leave of absence, which may include completing an OSU Application for Leave form and the OSU Medical Certification Statement. Both are online at hr.osu.edu/forms/#leave.
- Employees should maintain contact with their departments while on medical leave.
