Benefits Open Enrollment Begins November 3

Picture of a family Open Enrollment for benefit changes is November 3–14. During Open Enrollment, eligible faculty and staff will have the opportunity to make benefit elections or changes to their medical, dental, and vision coverage. To participate in a Dependent Care or Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) in 2009, you must enroll or re-enroll during Open Enrollment. You may also cancel Short-Term Disability coverage.

Special enrollment will be offered for Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance (VGTLI) during this Open Enrollment. The guaranteed issue amounts for which no medical history would be required are: employee - $50,000; spouse - $25,000 and dependent children - $10,000.

Eligible faculty and staff will receive a brochure at their home address in late October, providing a summary of the changes and worksheets to help you choose benefits. You can also attend a forum to learn about Open Enrollment changes (specific details will be included in the brochure). Advance registration for the forums is required at hr.osu.edu/oe.

All choices made during Open Enrollment will be effective January 1 through December 31, 2009. You will not have another opportunity to enroll for benefits or make changes to your elections in 2009 unless you have a qualifying status change, such as marriage or childbirth.

This is also an opportunity to ensure that dependents meet the eligibility requirements, which can be found at hr.osu.edu/benefits/benefiteligibility.htm. A separate certification process will occur in late winter/early spring for all faculty and staff who have dependents enrolled in a university health plan. Please thoroughly read the Open Enrollment brochure for more information.
