Fee Associated

Association of Staff and Faculty Women
The Association of Staff and Faculty Women is committed to supporting the professional development of all staff and faculty women at The Ohio State University through networking opportunities and unique programming.

John Glenn School of Public Affairs
The Management Advancement for the Public Service (MAPS) Program offers training seminars that build management and leadership skills for top executives, mid-level managers, first-line supervisors, and administrative support staff. Skill-building sessions are available for employees at all levels.

The OSU Leadership Center
The OSU Leadership Center provides practical, research-based programs and information that help staff and faculty become more effective in leadership and help the workplace become more productive. A variety of workshops, resources, and self-development assessment tools are offered.

The Women’s Place
The Women's Place serves as a catalyst for institutional change to expand opportunities for women's growth, leadership and power in an inclusive, supportive, and safe university environment. The Women’s Place offers a Staff Leadership Series, Staff Professional Development Mentorship Program, and the President's and Provost’s Leadership Institute for women on the faculty.

Fisher College of Business Executive Education
 
Fisher Executive Education brings together core learning with best practices through exposure to top faculty and practitioners in the field. An array of non-degree training programs tailored to business professionals is offered. Topical areas include management fundamentals, marketing, leadership, lean six sigma and supply chain management.

Ohio State University’s Tuition Assistance Benefit
The Tuition Assistance program for faculty and staff pays the instructional, general and non-Ohio resident fees for eligible employees who take courses at Ohio State.

Learning Technology
Learning Technology (LT) services within the Office of the CIO support teaching and learning with technology in the classroom and beyond.  They offer technology workshops and consultations. 

Technology User Groups

Women in Technology
A grass-roots group made up of women who work in a variety of technology-related jobs throughout the university community. The mailing list is witnet@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.

Web Interest Group
A group for people who create and maintain websites and pages. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. in 120 Baker Systems Engineering. For details, subscribe to the mailing list, webmasters@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.  

Advance One
English as a Second Language and Basic Skills (e.g., writing, math and GED preparation) classes are offered to OSU Medical Center employees through this tutoring program.

Bridge Program
Offered through the Office of Continuing Education, the Bridge Program is open to all regular university employees who hold a high school diploma or equivalent. These courses are designed for staff who have little or no college experience and are interested in “bridging” the gap between work life and academic life. Courses are scheduled in the late afternoon and early evenings (right after work in many cases). Eligible employees may use their tuition assistance benefit for these courses.

Office of Continuing Education
The Office of Continuing Education (CEd) at The Ohio State University offers quality programs and services that create a desire for lifelong learning. Examples of programs include:

  • The Career Exploration Office
    The Career Exploration Office (CEO) provides individualized career assistance to members of The Ohio State University community (alumni, staff, faculty, community members). Services include: self-assessments, occupational information, resume and cover letter assistance, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
  • Non-credit on-campus courses
    Whether you are looking for a course that will sharpen your computer skills, teach you a new language or enhance your flair for business, you’re likely to find it in one of the many noncredit course offerings. Examples include Accounting for Supervisors, Grammar Refresher, Introduction to Strategic Planning and Spanish for Healthcare Professionals.
  • Non-credit online courses
    These career-focused online courses are designed to give you the latest in learning, and to provide the skills necessary to acquire professional caliber positions in many in-demand occupations. Course topics include Business, Construction Technology, Healthcare and Fitness, Microsoft Certification Training and more.

Grants

Critical Difference for Women Professional Development Grants
Critical Difference for Women (CDW) is a scholarship/grant offering program of Ohio State offering financial support to women students, faculty and staff. CDW is comprised of three funds:

  • Re-entry Scholarships for women who have interrupted their education due to unforeseen obstacles such as family responsibilities or financial constraints;
  • Research on Women Grants for faculty members and doctoral students (both male and female) who are conducting research on all areas of women's lives;
  • Professional Development Grants for women to facilitate professional development and career mobility of women.

Staff Career Development Grants
Staff Career Development Grants (maximum $500 each) are awarded each year to assist eligible Ohio State staff members with education and training costs associated with the pursuit of professional development and career goals. Grants may be awarded for expenses such as registration fees, tuition fees, textbooks, child care expenses, job search/outplacement expenses, and transportation.

Personal Development

Culture Shaping and Life Effectiveness (2-day commitment)
At Ohio State, President Gee is committed to creating "One University", with an emphasis on a high-performance culture. In this two-day interactive retreat, participants will actively engage in exercises, reflection, and dialogue to learn how they can play a role in building the desired culture, as well as strategies for increasing their individual effectiveness. It is designed for any faculty or staff member who is not scheduled to attend a retreat with their department or unit.

Your Plan for Health
Launched in 2006, Your Plan for Health (YP4H) is Ohio State's approach to providing benefits-eligible faculty and staff with the tools and resources that will empower them to become proactive in managing their own health. YP4H's primary focus is on helping faculty, staff and their families reach the healthiest state possible by offering a variety of programs and incentives for identifying and acting on health care conditions, promoting cost-efficient choices based on individual needs, and taking control of health care spending.

Recreation & Physical Activity Center (RPAC)
Named an Outstanding Sports Facility (2007) by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), the RPAC is centrally located and boasts more than half a million square feet of recreation, meeting, fitness and aquatic space. Family hours are available to current members (including students paying the quarterly fee) and their registered family members. To register your family members, please stop at the front desk of the ARC or the RPAC Welcome Center. 

Employee Assistance Program
 The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is the university's employee assistance program (EAP). EAP is a confidential counseling service for Ohio State employees and their families experiencing some form of personal or work related distress that can interfere with work performance. All EAP counselors are independently licensed behavioral health professionals with years of experience and a commitment to the university community.
