The online training programs offered by Organization and Human Resource Consulting are available on Carmen, the university’s course management and training system. To access the training, you will need your name.# username and password. If you do not have a name.# username and password you can create them at the OSU Internet Username web site.

Sexual Harassment

At Ohio State we are deeply committed to promoting a climate of opportunity, equality, and respect. Unfortunately sexual harassment is an issue that affects faculty, staff and students every day. This online course will review:

  • The definition and examples of sexual harassment
  • How to report sexual harassment
  • Responsibilities of faculty, staff, administrators and HR professionals
  • Prohibited relationships
  • Campus resources

Background Check Coordinator Training

A key component of an OHR-approved background check program is the identification of a trained Background Check Coordinator (BCC) to administer the unit's program. OHR is providing BCC training to meet this requirement of Background Check Policy 4.15.

Identified BCCs will learn:

  • How a background check program becomes approved
  • How to determine who to check and how
  • Types of background checks
  • How to assess background check information
  • Documentation and records retention

Understanding Leaves at OSU

This course will help you gain a broad understanding of the leave programs at Ohio State, including how to:

  • Recognize the different leave options at Ohio State and how they may work together
  • Utilize and implement the procedures of the leave programs to comply with policies and mandated regulations
  • Explain the leave programs and procedures to others

Corrective Action

The objective of Corrective Action is to identify and correct undesirable behavior of an employee and to provide the employee with due process. Managers who understand the corrective action process and how to appropriately work with an employee who has performance problems will achieve better results. In this course, participants will learn:

  • Nuts and bolts of Ohio State's corrective action policy
  • Specific processes for A&P, CCS and Bargaining Unit employees
  • How to document and communicate the corrective action process

Remember, the point of Corrective Action is to improve performance, not to punish employees.

What Supervisors Need to Know About Discrimination

At Ohio State we are deeply committed to promoting a climate of opportunity, equality, and respect. This course will help you gain a broad understanding of the legal foundation of the Ohio State discrimination policy; as well as practical steps you as a supervisor can take to prevent and respond to discrimination.

Instructions for enrolling in OHRC training in Carmen:

  1. Access Carmen at https://carmen.osu.edu and click the login button.
  2. Your Carmen My Home page will open. Click the Join link in the navigation bar.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Join instructions page and click on the Join link.
  4. Select the link for the training course you are interested in joining (e.g. sexual harassment).
  5. Click on the Register button to enroll yourself in the selected course.
  6. Complete requested registration information and click on the Submit button. Note that fields marked with an * are required.
  7. Confirm your registration information and click on the Finish button.
  8. Click on the Done button.

Auxiliary Faculty Appointment Training: This class is designed for human resource professionals to gain a stronger understanding of the auxiliary faculty vacation benefit for 12/12 month auxiliary faculty members and to gain understanding on all faculty appointments. For questions regarding auxiliary faculty benefits and faculty appointments please call OHR Customer Service at 292-1050 and they will forward you to the appropriate consultant.

Genetic Discrimination Training: This class is designed to provide information about what genetic discrimination is, how to prevent it, and how to recognize and refer inappropriate practices. For questions about genetic discrimination, contact your unit’s assigned Employee and Labor Relations consultant at 292-2800.
