Our Curriculum
The Ohio State University Child Care Program provides developmentally appropriate care in a secure, warm environment that encourages the total development of the child. Children are helped to recognize their individuality and special worth, to develop self-discipline, and to develop respect for and understanding of individuals different from themselves.
Curriculum is defined as both routines and activities, and builds on understanding self, communicating with others, respect for self, others, and the environment, and problem solving. Children develop an understanding of concepts about themselves, others, and the world around them through observation, interacting with people and real objects, and seeking solutions to concrete problems.
Activities
Math, science, social studies, health, and other topics are integrated through meaningful activities. All inclusive Art Studios are located in each of the two child care sites. Children's investigations and experiences with a wide variety of art materials and in-depth project work support all elements of the program curriculum.
Routines
Routines help children learn to keep themselves healthy and safe. Individualized activities, relaxed group play, and varied play experiences stimulate development of adaptive behavior, language, motor, social, emotional, and problem solving skills.
For School-Age Children
Chartered by the State of Ohio, the Kindergarten program offers a curriculum which meets standards set by the Ohio Department of Education. Schoolagers also have appropriate recreational activities during summer and evening care hours.
Meals & Snacks
Meals meeting USDA guidelines are prepared for children in the program. A lunch and two snacks are served daily at both the Ackerman Road and Buckeye Village sites. At the Ackerman Road site, dinner and a snack are served after 6:00pm. USDA Food Program funds are used to supplement food costs.
