Medical Plans

The medical plans provide you with comprehensive coverage while giving you choice of care providers. The university offers basic medical plans to eligible employees of Ohio State - each plan includes prescription drug plan and GlobalCare medical referral service.

Faculty and staff have the choice of the following medical plans:

Are my dependents, spouse, or partner eligible for this benefit?

This benefit is available to eligible spouses, same-sex domestic partners, sponsored dependents, and dependents. [See Dependent Eligibility Guidelines]

How/when can I sign up?

Eligible employees may enroll in a medical plan upon hire, during Open Enrollment, or if a qualifying status change occurs. To elect this benefit, download and complete a Health Election Form.
 

Will this affect my taxes?

Some of your out-of-pocket medical expenses may be eligible for reimbursement pre-tax through the Health Care Flexible Spending Account.
 

When can I change my benefit elections?

Eligible employees may change their medical plan elections upon hire into a benefit-eligible position, during Open Enrollment, or if a qualifying status change occurs.

Will I receive a card?

Yes, you will receive a medical/prescription drug identification card.

 



Have there been any recent changes to this benefit?

No.
 

Who do I contact regarding claims?

Medical claim payments are processed by NGS American. You can view your claim history and pending claims online on the NGS American Self-Service Site. If your medical care provider does not directly file with NGS, you will need to file a medical claim form.

What would cause this benefit coverage to end?

This benefit would end if the employee transfers to a non benefit eligible position, leaves university employment, or if a dependent becomes ineligible.

NGS American (medical claims processing)

Managed Health Care Systems, Inc. (prior authorization, OSU MHCS Formulary Drug list, precertification of hospitalization)
