Short-Term Disability (STD)

If you have been off work due to an injury or illness, contact the Office of Human Resources, Integrated Disability.

Are my dependents, spouse, or partner eligible for this benefit?

This benefit is available for eligible Ohio State employees only.

How/when can I sign up?

You may enroll in STD by completing an STD Enrollment Form within 31 days of employment or transfer to an eligible position, during a subsequent enrollment period (not held annually), or if you have a qualifying family status change.

You may also enrolll at any time by completing an STD Enrollment form and providing a completed medical Evidence of Insurability form.

Will this affect my taxes?

No - premiums for STD are deducted from your pay on an after-tax basis. The benefits, when received, may be taxable income.

When can I change my benefit elections?

You may cancel your enrollment in STD during an open enrollment period by completing the STD Election Form and submitting it to the Office of Human Resources. During open enrollment is the only opportunity to cancel STD coverage and cancellation of coverage will be effective with the new plan year.

What would cause this benefit coverage to end?

Your disability benefits are immediately terminated upon transfer into an ineligible position. When your disability coverage ceases due to termination of employment, you may be eligible to purchase coverage under a conversion policy.

What happens to this benefit when I leave OSU?
