HELPFUL CONNECTIONS FOR NEW EMPLOYEES
|
New
Employee Orientation (Informational Sessions) |
 |
How do I find out about university history, traditions
and values and how I fit into the "big picture"? Where
can I find out more about my benefits?
You are looking for New Employee Orientation. It is
a lively, interactive session offered monthly for new
employees. Check the Organization
and Human Resource Development Web site for a schedule
of orientation dates and more information about the
agenda online. (Faculty and certain units, such as Physical Facilities
and the Medical Center, have their own customized orientation
programs that take the place of the university-wide
New Employee Orientation. If you are unsure which program
to attend, ask your supervisor or HR Contact. ) |
 |
New Employee Orientation Checklists |
| |
Would you like a checklist that covers everything
you need to know and do as an employee at Ohio State?
You can download a New Employee Orientation Checklist
for Yourself and a matching New Hire Checklist for Your Supervisor. This set of checklists developed by the Office
of Human Resources provides both you and your supervisor
with a comprehensive, organized guide to your first
weeks and months of employment. |
 |
Benefits |
| |
Where can I get help reviewing and understanding
my benefits?
After your HR contact adds your information into the
HR System, you will be sent a packet of benefit information
and election forms. You can talk with your supervisor
or HR contact, attend New
Employee Orientation, attend a retirement
forum , or schedule an appointment with a Benefit
Consultant. There is a Benefit presentation as
part of New Employee Orientation as well.
How can I find out about other programs and services
available to me as an OSU staff member?
There are a variety of discounts and services available
through departments all over campus. View the Ohio
State Programs and Services for Faculty and Staff Powerpoint
Presentation for details. |
 |
Payroll |
 |
When am I paid? How do I sign up for direct deposit?
The Office of Human Resources, Payroll Service, offers
a variety of services and information including those
new employees ask most about: direct
deposit, payroll
calendars, and tax
information. You can also find information on what
your pay document will look like and a description of
each section. |
 |
Transportation & Parking |
 |
Are you trying to figure out where to park and
how to get an OSU hangtag?
You can purchase a parking pass at Transportation and
Parking Services located in Bevis
Hall. They will also be able to direct you to the
parking lot closest to your building. Rates are based
on pass type. Students can purchase a "C" pass. Faculty
and staff can purchase A or B passes - your supervisor
or HR contact should be able to tell you which passes
you are eligible to purchase. |
 |
BUCK
ID (Employee ID Card) |
 |
Do I get an Ohio State Employee ID card?
Yes - it is known as the BUCK ID. The BUCK ID provides
you with a university ID and with savings at select
local retailers. To get your BUCK ID, go to the BUCK
ID Center in Lincoln
Tower. (Some departments such as Physical Facilities
and the Medical Center also issue another ID card. Check
with your supervisor to see if you will need another
ID card.)

Where are the policies and rules that tell me
what is expected of me as a new employee at Ohio State?
Human Resources Policies and Procedures are available
online as well as links to other policies and rules
such as the Rules for the Classified Civil Service,

Ohio Ethics Laws |

Ohio State faculty and staff are covered by the Ohio
Ethics Law for public officials and state employees (Chapter

university must provide each faculty and staff member with
a copy
of this legislation and obtain written acknowledgement
of receipt by signing the Ohio
Ethics Law Acknowledgement Form. |
 |
Form W-4 (Employee's Withholding Allowance
Certificate) |
| |
All Ohio State employees are required to complete a Form
W-4 when hired. You will also need to review your
Form W-4 and make appropriate changes if you have had
a major life change, such as an address change, marriage
or divorce, death of a spouse, or birth/adoption of a
child. |
 |
Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9) |
| |
Employees must provide verification that they are
eligible for employment at OSU. This is done by your
