Tuition Assistance

of attending Ohio State? Would your spouse like to earn a Bachelor's
degree? Tuition Assistance is available for eligible faculty and staff
and their dependents.
Ohio State offers
a tuition assistance benefit for its faculty and staff and their eligible
dependents.
• The Tuition Assistance program for faculty and staff pays the instructional, general and non-Ohio resident fees for eligible employees who take courses at Ohio State. The Faculty and Staff Tuition Assistance Fact Sheet provides a detailed description of the program provisions. For information regarding enrollment in credit programs refer to HR policy 2.35.
• The Tuition Assistance program for dependents pays a portion of the instructional and general fees for the employee’s spouse, eligible dependent children, same-sex domestic partner, and eligible dependent children of their same-sex domestic partner, who take courses at Ohio State. The Dependent Tuition Assistance Fact Sheet provides a detailed description of the program provisions.

This benefit is available to the spouse, dependent children, same-sex domestic partner, and dependent children of a same-sex domestic partner of eligible faculty and staff.
How/when can
I sign up?
For Faculty
and Staff Tuition Assistance: No tuition assistance application
is needed; a credit will appear on the fee statement when you enroll
in classes for the quarter.
For Dependent
Tuition Assistance: Complete a Dependent Tuition Assistance Application for each academic year. Complete the form for the entire academic
year, even if you are not certain which quarters your dependent will
enroll in classes. Credit will appear on fee statement when enrolled
for the quarter. Application deadlines are as follows:
Full Academic
Year: July 15
Autumn Quarter only: July 15
Winter Quarter only: November 1
Spring Quarter only: February 1
Summer Quarter only: April 15
Will this affect
my taxes?
For Faculty
and Staff Tuition Assistance: A graduate-level fee authorization
may be subject to taxation. The Internal Revenue Code currently does
not require that the amount of your graduate-level tuition assistance
be taxed. This legislation has a maximum exempted limit of $5250,
and is subject to change. Contact Payroll
Services for more information.
For Dependent
Tuition Assistance: The Internal Revenue Code currently requires
that the amount of your graduate-level tuition assistance be taxed. The Internal Revenue Code also requires that the amount of tuition assistance benefit for same-sex domestic partners and their dependent children be taxed.
Have there been
any recent changes to this benefit?
Beginning autumn quarter 2007, dependent tuition assistance benefits increased to 75 percent for students whose parents are both employed by the university and meet the program’s eligibility requirements.
Tuition assistance benefits will also be offered to same-sex domestic partners and the eligible dependent children of same-sex domestic partners at the same benefit level and program eligibility requirements.
The tuition assistance benefit will remain at 50 percent for students with one parent employed at the university.

this benefit coverage to end?
This benefit
would end if the employee transfers to a non-benefit-eligible position,
or leaves university employment.
